Lierna is a municipality in the Province of Lecco, which is in the Italian region of Lombardy and is situated on the Eastern coast of the Lecco branch of the lake. Although it is the next largest town to Como, it is not quite so popular with visitors, therefore not so well known. However, it has a railway line and expressway, so is easily accessible. The town has many beautiful villas, some of which date back to the 18th and 19th century but are used mainly these days as second homes for the Italian nobility. Take a boat onto the lake to appreciate the full beauty of this area, where the spectacular mountains form a wonderful backdrop, to the greenery of the olive groves and vineyards, then descending further to the old town walls which line the lakeside. Lierna has one of the largest stone beaches on the lake called La Riva Bianca, which translated means 'The White Shore', which is ideal for those holiday picnics. Boat services are also available from Lierna to both Lecco and Bellagio. There are several restaurants, a bakers and also a grocery shop, and also a bar at the beach where snacks are available. | |
